Nissan North America announced the withdrawal of nearly 196 thousand SUVs in the United States, because of corrosion problems that can damage the steering and suspension systems of vehicles. Withdrawal involves Nissan Pathfinder production of 1997-2003, and 1996-2004 Infiniti QX4.
"The areas of high salt concentrations and snow much easier cause corrosion," said Transportation Security Administration U.S. Highways (NHTSA), as quoted by CNN, Thursday, April 28, 2011.
Corrosion akibibat combined effects of water, salt, and snow piled up, can make a hole in the wheel strut. If not promptly replaced, the steering system will be exposed to rust, and can result in loss of steering control. "This could lead to accidents."
