East Nusa Tenggara is a province of Indonesia which is located in southeastern Indonesia. This province consists of several islands, including Flores, Sumba, Timor, Alor, Lembata, Rote, Sabu, Adonara, Solor, Komodo and Palue. Its capital is located in Kupang, West Timor.
This province consists of approximately 550 islands, the three main islands in East Nusa Tenggara are Flores, Sumba and West Timor.
This province occupies the western part of Timor island. While the eastern part of the island is the former Indonesian province's 27 th, that East Timor became an independent state of East Timor in 2002.
Population
The population in this province is 4,448,873 people where the male population of 2,213,608 people and the female population of 2,235,265 inhabitants (2007). [3] Most of the population are Christian with the percentage of ± 89% (majority Catholic), Muslim ± 9%, ± 0.2%, Hindu or Buddhist and ± 3% for the other. East Nusa Tenggara become a refuge for Christians in Indonesia who shy away from religious conflict in Maluku and Irian Jaya.
Secondary school enrollment rate was 39% which is far below the average for Indonesia, which is 80.49% in 2003/04 (according to UNESCO). Drinks in the form of clean water, sanitation and lack of health facilities lead to child malnutrition (32%) and infant mortality (71 per 1000) is also larger than most other Indonesian provinces.
Economy
According to various economic standards, the economy in this province is lower than the average for Indonesia, with high inflation (15%), unemployment (30%) and interest rates (22-24%).
